Easter Eggs
"The painted Easter eggs are made for the celebration of Easter. The egg symbolizes the origination of life and has an important place in Bulgarian folk culture. The first painted egg for Christ’s Resurrection is always red.
This way in the Easter holiday ancient pagan beliefs and Christian notions mingle into one.
The technique of egg decoration is varied for the different regions and everyone does not master it. The ornamentation is symbolic and, as is the case with most of the forms of Bulgarian folk art, the motifs are floral. On the eggs may appear butterflies, bees, fish, birds, suns, stars and human figures, all of these with specific role in the folk mythology. Painted Easter eggs are exchanged between unmarried boys and girls as a token of love, are given as presents between relations and are brought to the church as gifts. Their exquisite make, the result of rich imagination, makes them as one of the most beautiful works of Bulgarian folk art."
I'd definitely like to buy one. I didn't get a chance to buy anything from Ally's birth country.
